Matthew Cartier

Airline Representative

Matthew Cartier joined RAA in 2018 and currently serves as a Pilot Representative. Matthew was born and raised in south central Washington State. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a BS in Aero Engineering. In 1984, he was commissioned through NROTC as a U.S. Navy officer upon graduation.

Matthew was an active duty Navy carrier pilot from 1984 -1999, and in the reserves from 1999 – 2006. He has logged 1,000 hours in the A-7E, 2,000 hours in the F-18A/B/C/D, and 750 total carrier landings. He also made combat deployments to Southwest Asia, Africa, and the Mediterranean.

Matthew joined American Airlines in 1999. As an American Airlines pilot based in Miami, he has served as a Boeing 727 Flight Engineer, a B-737-800 / B-757-200 / B767-300 First Officer, and an Airbus A-319/20/21, B737-8/B737 Max Captain. Matthew has completed 10,500 total hours on the B-737, 675 total hours on the B-757/767, and 500 total hours on the AB319/20/21.

Matthew and his wife Lynette reside in Florida with their two sons and daughter. He is passionate about Notre Dame football, music, and cold draft beer.
