Joe Maiden joined PHH in 1992. He served on the Board of Directors of the Allied Pilots Association and was a member of the APA Negotiating Committee for nine years.

During that time he was actively involved with the pilot retirement plan, attending the Workshop of Money Management Fundamentals at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and the Professional Negotiator Advanced Skills Seminar at the Institute of Industrial Relations, Loyola University. Joe was commissioned in the U. S. Marine Corps serving five years active duty, including a combat tour in Vietnam, and eight years reserve duty. He began a career as an airline pilot with American Airlines in 1966 and retired in 1999. He attended the MBA program in Management at San Diego State University and received a Bachelor of Science in 1961 from the U.S. Naval Academy.
