Survivor Assistance

Dealing with the loss of a spouse, child or parent can be an emotional roller coaster and can change everything in an instant. We have spent many years developing our Survivor Assistance Program to guide you through the financial decisions, paperwork, and estate settlement that follows a death. Our crisis team, which consists of your Relationship Managers, your CPA and estate planning attorney will be there to assist the surviving spouse and extended family when they are least able to attend to the details.

American Airlines Experience

Our first American Airlines client was also one of our founders, Captain Howard Pritchard. Howard worked on the APA pension committee and was a broker at Merrill Lynch at the same time. After seeing the need his fellow pilots had heading into retirement, he opened his own firm to specifically serve pilots and their families. Today we have over 1,100 retired and active American Airlines pilots as clients. Many of whom you probably know and they are happy to talk to you, just ask us for references.

Your Retirement Plan

American’s pilot retirement plan has changed drastically in the last few years due to the bankruptcy in 2011. The A fund is frozen with an annuity, the B fund is now under your control. What you have left to build out your retirement picture is the SuperSaver. Between your own contribution and that of AA, you have a great opportunity to grow your 401K rapidly between now and retirement. As your advisor, we will provide you with assistance on the asset allocation of your Super Saver as well as guidance on issues of bumping up against the IRS 415(c) limits on total contributions to qualified retirement plans.

Brad Bridgewater is the Vice President of Business Development for Retirement Advisors of America. He leads the Financial Consultant and pilot representative teams across the country for all the airlines RAA serves. Brad joined the company in 2005 and spent seven years as a Financial Consultant. Prior to joining RAA, Brad was an athlete, representing the United States National Swimming Team around the world, including winning a gold medal in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta in the 200 meter backstroke. Brad holds a BA from the University of Southern California.

Michael Kane is a Vice President and Financial Consultant with Retirement Advisors of America. Mike joined the RAA team in 2012. He works closely with pilots to evaluate their retirement planning readiness and provide solutions to meet their retirement goals and dreams. Mike has over 22 years of financial services experience with Fidelity Investments, American Beacon Advisors, and Baker Avenue. Mike is a graduate of Texas Tech University with a degree in Marketing. He has also completed the CFP Examination and coursework for the Certified Financial Planners designation through the College of Financial Planning.
